In response to feedback from a recent series of breakfast meetings, we have developed a network and on-line forum to support Local Authorities and businesses to meet the challenges of the government's new Sustainable Procurement Action Plan. Government supply-chains and public services will need to become low carbon, low waste, water efficient, respect biodiversity and deliver the UK's 2009 sustainable development goals.

What does does sustainable procurement mean for suppliers?

In order to compete for Local Government  supply contracts businesses must meet the increasing demand for products and services with low negative environmental and social impacts. Sustainable innovation will provide  them with a competitive edge, enhance their corporate reputation and deliver social and environmental benefits.

What does sustainable procurement mean for Public Sector Procurers?

Local Authorities need to lead by example, ensuring they adopt established minimum product standards, be known to deliver key environmental benchmarks and value for money. They must ensure that sustainability becomes embedded into all public service operation.
