Offsite

Construction product: Residential – Apartments

Project contract value: £140m

Beginning in October 2015, the Gasholders project houses 145 luxury apartments in a series of three new build cylindrical structures, each within the constraints of the cast-iron Victorian listed gasholder rings that formerly formed part of the city’s largest gas works. Having demonstrated outstanding offsite and prefabrication efficiencies previously, SES were engaged at Gasholders London at the very beginning of the design process by the main contractor and the developer.

Modern builds are rarely square and simple, but often are based on a grid shape and adapted to suit the site and locational requirements. Each of the existing gasholder rings where differing height and diameter with their own unique floor layouts. SES delivered all main service risers, covering six riser shafts, each extending up the three gasholders, incorporating 1.7km of finished and tested pipework, ductwork and electrical containment.

SES’ Offsite manufacturing processes had a much wider impact than simply cutting costs and onsite hours. By moving module manufacture, testing offsite and using BIM, there was a greater level of accuracy and wastage was significantly reduced.

The first ever winner of new Offsite category will be announced at the awards ceremony and gala dinner at the Royal Lancaster on the 28th of June. For more information about the event or to book your place, click here.
