Winner: The University of Winchester (Nominated by Ridge & Partners)

Ridge & Partners nominated the University of Winchester for the Client of the Year Award 2017 as they were impressed by their willingness to go ‘above and beyond’ in the way they treated their students, staff, suppliers, external stakeholders, neighbours, wider community groups and procurement partners.

Ridge & Partners have worked with the University for many years and the estate had undergone a significant amount of construction to improve and expand its built assets. Construction on a new flagship faculty building began earlier this month and the University has taken on the project management role itself to ensure the smooth running and integration of the scheme with their aspirations.

The University of Winchester demonstrated clear leadership in the way that it managed design and construction and benefited from early contractor involvement through using the IESE framework. With high corporate goals, the University had embraced ‘whole life costing’ to determine value for money and successfully adopted sustainable methods of building and running its estate.

The University is a value driven institution determined to contribute to achieving a sustainable future. Success is evidenced in the academic achievement and satisfaction of its students, the University’s rise in the league tables and its standing in the community.

The Client of the Year award is sponsored by Willmott Dixon, a privately-owned contracting and fit-out company. Being a large company means they have the scale to create a huge and lasting positive impact on our society. This is not only done through what they build and maintain but also through the fantastic efforts of all their people who make a major contribution to enhancing their local communities.

They achieve very positive impacts on the industry and the wider community and provide a great example to others. In 2017 they won the Sunday Times ’GivingSomethingBack’ award for their focus on strengthening the fabric of society.

The awards are open for entries until the closing date of the 5th of March 2018. It is free and easy to enter the awards – just register here and download the forms!
