Blog: CoTrain Apprentice of the Month

Alex receives the award for March 2018

The most recent winner of the CoTrain Apprentice of the Month is Alex Ferguson, a first year Site Manager apprentice working with Kier Construction.

Nominated by Daniel Fisher, Project Manager with Kier on the prestigious Reading Gateway Project, Daniel remarked that "Alex has had to grow quickly and is now a valuable member of the team who has demonstrated that once he is shown something he can quickly take the lead and complete the task to a high standard". Daniel added, "I have no hesitation already in him covering aspects of work without heavy supervision as he is independent and confident."

Alex has an interesting background, previously playing football to a very high semi professional standard in the National League South. When he joined CoTrain in November 2017 , it was clear that he was thinking about his long term future and career, so he made the decision to get an apprenticeship working with a tier 1 contractor. Balancing his passion and pastime of football with the very high demands required as an apprentice site manager, Daniel concluded that his "development is very noticeable since he commenced and I would now not hesitate to employ him on a future construction team, which is a huge improvement for him."

Alex also, we think, is the only CoTrain apprentice who currently has a mention on Wikipedia!
