Apprentice Initiative

Type of organisation: Contractor

Number of staff: 164

Osborne are breaking down the stereotypical view that apprenticeships are only trade focused by offering Management Apprenticeships covering the disciplines of site management, quantity surveying and design. They are also working in partnership with universities to provide the employment element of the apprenticeship agreement, providing greater support and structure to the apprentices.

They support the apprentices throughout their studies and exams by using their extensive knowledge base across the business. Apprentices also have quarterly performance development reviews with the apprentice manager and monthly 1:1s with their line managers, giving the apprentices an opportunity to receive and give their feedback.

All apprentices are site based for 80% of the time and have a bespoke training matrix which covers their day to day duties as well as formal training such as SMSTS, Asbestos Awareness and Fire Marshalling. The matrix is monitored by their line manager and mentor to ensure that they are making progress.

Apprentices are highly valued at Osborne as they are keen to learn, ambitious and hard working. 95% of their apprentices and trainee’s stay on with Osborne for more than 5 years after they have graduated from the programme, with many former apprentices now running projects of their own and mentoring the up and coming apprentices.
