The ESFA has proved they are serious about off-site construction with 35 schools already built or in the process of being built using pre-construction. They have also procured three new modular frameworks (one for new build primary, one for primary block replacement and one for Secondary schools) with a total value of around £500m, generating significant market interest from off-site specialist contractors and tier one contractors. To facilitate this, a significant piece of work was undertaken by the ESFA, capturing best practice in teaching and learning, to develop a series of standardised designs that the successful contractors would use to deliver standardised components based on a standardised template design approach.  These standard designs meet the stringent requirements set by the ESFA and are flexible to meet the needs of specific sites whilst ensuring key elements of the solution are the same.

A key measure of success for the ESFA is that anybody entering a modular school would not spot any difference to a traditionally built school. Working hard to ensure that this is just the start of their offsite journey for the school sector, they are already conceiving the next generation of off-site schools and collaborating with key partners across government to ensure pre-construction is at the heart of their work over the next few years.

Winners of the Constructing Excellence SECBE Awards will be announced at the awards ceremony and gala dinner on the 28th of June 2018. For more information or to book tickets click here.
