Energy Ratings

National Home Energy Rating (NHER), which looks at all the energy a house uses, is expressed to one decimal place on a scale of 0 to 10.

As the National Home Energy Rating website explains, Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) are coming into force on 1 June 2007 (in England and Wales) as part of the Home Information Pack (HIP). They are required to meet the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). Although not all dwellings will require an EPC straight away, the EPBD must be implemented in all sectors by 4th January 2009.

The system was originally developed by the National Energy Foundation, and is now operated through their subsidiary National Energy Services Ltd.
