WELCOME TO THE LOW CARBON HOMES ‘HOW TO' GUIDE

This guide is designed to show you ‘how to' deliver and build low carbon homes. It draws on a wealth of knowledge from a wide range of sources. The house-building industry is now increasingly 'zero carbon driven'.

SECBE has developed this new web resource to assist small to medium house builders and their consultants and suppliers in the South East to deliver Low Carbon Homes.

This reference guide provides links and signposts to key guidance and knowledge, including information on low carbon technologies, energy efficient design and on-site generation*. It is part of a project that has been defined by the three Regional bodies: the South East of England Regional Assembly (SEERA), the Regional Development Agency (SEEDA) and the Government Office (GOSE) to meet their joint objectives, and is being largely funded by the Energy Saving Trust.

Going for world leadership
‘Achieving zero carbon by 2016 will be an outstanding achievement, leapfrogging Britain from among the European also-rans to world leadership in the field. It presents a major business opportunity, as well as a significant contribution to mitigating climate change. Advancing from the small handful of zero carbon homes currently being built to 240,000 homes a year within nine years will challenge everyone connected with the industry, including house-builders themselves, product manufacturers, energy suppliers, designers, surveyors, planers, insurers, regulators and house buyers themselves.'

'House-builders, construction products manufacturers and energy suppliers are all well aware of the Government's zero carbon agenda. They recognise a potential competitive advantage if they can be first to deliver solutions for customers, and a risk of losing their place in a market shake-up as the new agenda takes hold. These are powerful drivers.'
