The focus of this project is to research both relevant construction technologies and identify the training skills which are required to enable the new methods of production to succeed. To date, SECBE has engaged with a number of colleges of further education. It has been established that there is a mismatch between both the delivery of traditional craft skills, academic attainment and the need for up-to-date training provision for new technologies.

Engagement has been made with colleges of higher education. Research programmes are very active in terms of environmental issues and the benefits from offsite construction. Some universities have set up initiatives with industry promoting and researching unitised cladding and curtain walling.

SECBE have set up networks with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), Construction Industry Council and Foundation Degree Forward and a number of issues need to be addressed. In summary the key issues are as follows:
