Preconstruction Environmental Impact Assessment

Enviromental Impact Assessments (EIAs) are now mandatory for many types of development, and will always be necessary where considerable environmental impacts might arise. Local Authorities use an initial screening process to determine which developments will need to submit an EIA, and they will also advise on the scope of issues which the developers will need to address in their submission.

Beyond the statutory requirements, however, companies might wish to consider EIAs as part of their internal good practice mechanisms. A well thought out EIA is likely to benefit the development through early consideration of the challenges of a project, and can also benefit community relations by focusing on considerate, sustainable approaches to constructing a project.
