Company turnover: £2b

The ‘Think Differently’ programme sees the collaboration between Mitie, Remploy, The National Autistic Society (NAS) and Geason Training, to not only challenge the perceptions of disabilities in the workplace, but to also give valuable work experience to people with a wider range of disabilities. The programme runs over an 18-month period, during this time a minimum of 60 candidates are given the opportunity to participate in a 12 week placement in a role suitable to their aspirations and skill set, whether it is painting, joinery or administration.

Mitie employees volunteer to be Disability Coaches and Mentors and are trained in Mental Health Awareness and Systematic Instruction to ensure they are prepared to support the candidates and to become a friendly face during the programme. The training is not only useful for this project but can be used in everyday life and allows employees to develop their own knowledge of disabilities and mental health awareness.

Following completion on the ‘Think Differently’ programme, candidates are given a reference and an industry recognised qualification, which not only acknowledges their hard work, but also helps them to secure future employment.

The winners of the People Development category will be announced at the awards ceremony and gala dinner on the 28th of June at the Royal Lancaster London. For more information about the event or to book, click here.
