SECBE Awards

Peter Brett now part of Stantec offers a well-rounded and detailed apprentice scheme. It has been an important part of their business for over 50 years. They see beyond the levy and focus on the business investment and the apprentices' future.

  • Regular promotions – provide a constantly improving workforce in an industry severely lacking in skilled workers.
  • Significant support network to help the apprentice succeed, including parental information, with Learning & Development and HR playing key roles
  • They work closely with the education providers to make sure our employees are learning what they need to be an effective team member
  • Line managers provide support, coaching, and opportunities to apply the learning in a real-life environment
  • Project directors build opportunities into project planning to support the apprentice workforce
  • They actively promote STEM

They have 60 technical apprentices and this year they have taken on a HR apprentice and a business admin apprentice. They are also looking to work with providers and industry bodies to develop their own GIS technologies apprenticeship

They were awarded four awards in December for Best Apprentice Employer, Best Apprentice, Apprenticeship Programme of the Year and Best Apprentice of the Year.  One of their apprentices has also been awarded the ICE Quest Technician Award this year.

Highlights

  • They provide rigorous support for apprentices and line managers
  • They actively promote STEM and give back to local schools
  • They are seeing results, including award wins
