Featured Finalist: Rathbone Square, London (BIM Technologies)

Rathbone Square began in 2011, at a time when BIM was not commonly used. By selecting a digital approachfrom the outset, GPE invested heavily to ensure the project was delivered on time and to budget. BIM Technologies was appointed Information Manager and BIM Coordinator and brought together the teams from client and designers through to contractors. The teams moved into a single office at GPE to develop the design – a core BIM area with large screens to help to interrogate the model. Lendlease carried out detailed coordination withall trades. By the end of stage 4 the 350 models used for timelining, and referred to regularly to monitor progress, had been coordinated without a single issue or clash.

The BIM process has been a consistent thread within the teams but ultimately the driving force behind this project was the power of the connected workforce, from the design team all the way through to the contractor and onsite teams to interior fit out. This connectivity was achieved through commitment, collaboration and understanding of the project down to the finite detail, all of which was visible through the asset model. Integrating digital construction methods at all stages of the build has resulted in a beautifully apportioned space which is now an exemplar mixed used scheme
