A Pilot Project for Sustainable Construction
Location: South East England and Andalucia, Spain
Aims: The aim of this project focuses on existing and emerging sustainable construction methods, techniques, policies and activities drawing out best practice in order to drive business across the regions
Objectives: To address this aim SECBE and the Diputacion de Huelva in Andalucia will be identifying areas of expertise in order to transfer knowledge between and within regions. The project will assist companies to implement sustainable construction methods and materials into developments. Particularly focusing on incorporating water and energy efficiency equipment and using waste minimisation techniques.
The project will also:
- Establish a steering group and a professional network of experts
- Research sustainable construction methods and best practice
- Integrate existing best practice guides into a single resource
- Deliver seminars, a conference, a discussion forum
- Create a web portal to highlight strategic direction and best practice sources of information
Partners: SECBE is leading and managing this project while working closely with our partner the Diputacion de Huelva in Andalucia. The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Interreg IIIC, as part of the GROW Programme. The South East England Development Agency is the GROW Secretariat
Actions: This project will use a combination of research and development methods, including:
- Desk based information gathering of existing policies and best practice
- Presentations at relevant local and regional conferences of project findings and recommendations
- Distribution of the findings of the research to the sector and to trade and industry bodies in each partner country
- Mailings to all audiences to highlight the progressions of the project as they occur
Outcomes: We hope that the project will show a positive economic impact upon the construction sector in both regions.
On successful completion of the project we expect to demonstrate:
- Business input into local, regional and national policy and strategy consulations
- Increased use of renewable energy in building and design
- A reduction in construction waste
- An increased use of recyclable materials in construction
Work on the project commenced in March 2006 and will run for 18 months until October 2007
