Supply Chain Management
As the Sustainable Supply Chain Forum (SSCF) states, supply chain management "will have a vital role to play in determining future production and consumption patterns." Larger companies need to show leadership as part of their commitment to CSR, but there is also a strong commercial case for proactive supply chain management.
The SSCF summarises the business case thus:
- Reduce waste and improve resource efficiency;
- Secure the supply of goods and services;
- Minimise business risks;
- Provide cost savings;
- Provide added value;
- Enhance corporate image; and
- Create markets for new products and services
However, to create a truly inspiring manifesto for your supply chain, you'll need to move beyond the pragmatism of the business case. As the Novo Nordisk supplier brochure states, sustainable, ethical supply chain relations are "not just to manage risk, but because it's the right thing to do."
