Innovation
Type of client: Developer
Construction product: Mixed use – commercial and retail
Sir Robert McAlpine was appointed principal contractor for the 10-year re-development of Broadgate, London by client British Land. Both recognised that the success of the project would depend on the engagement and involvement of its stakeholders, including tenants, infrastructure third parties and transient commuter base working, or those simply moving through the Broadgate campus. With many projects all running across the site at any one time, one of the main challenges was how to manage relationships and how to engage them in a way to enhance collaboration.
The Broadgate Construction App was launched in June 2017 to improve the development process, improve communications and ensure engagement and advocacy from stakeholders. The app is an innovative first for the construction industry and aims to act as a conduit for the community engagement, PR, consultation and a comprehensive directory of news about the project. Since its inception, the app has been successful in the management of complaints and has had positive feedback from the industry as well as third parties including the City of London, CCS and the CIOB.
The winners of the Innovation Award will be announced at the awards ceremony and gala dinner on the 28th of June at the Royal Lancaster London. For more information about the event or to book tickets, click here.
