MacConvilles Ltd

SME of the Year SECBE Award 2021 finalist

For more than 80 years MacConvilles has been providing high standards of service and insight to deliver projects they are proud to be part of. From relationships that have existed for many years that include the University of Sussex and the Royal Pavilion, they have been helping shape the construction landscape across the south of England.

Over the years their surveying teams have been working together to create a highly qualified team of experts. The breadth and depth of their knowledge ensure they offer the highest-quality, professional building services for an extensive range of property types.

Last year was an unprecedented time. With a path out of lockdown now in front of us and the uncertainties of Brexit better known, they have been able to take stock of just how far they have adapted over the last twelve months and how they have worked together not just to survive but to thrive.

They have embraced working from home using video conferencing, Sharepoint and Teams to keep connected and projects on track. They have balanced home working with home schooling, supporting each other to deliver the first class service they are proud of even in these unprecedented times.

They have taken action to support the welfare of both their physical and mental health, reviewing and updating their in house health policies and championing mental health in construction with the training of two mental health first aiders. They have continued with their commitment to the community supporting one staff member to take part in the COVID vaccination service having already undertaken 100 hours.

From re-branding and a new look at Directorial level to six new team members and the creation of a dedicated Principal Designer service, the last twelve months has seen MacConvilles evolve and grow. Following in-house consultations, they are updating and refreshing the office to create a more spacious environment that will foster collaborative working whilst maintaining COVID safe working.

Key facts:

  • They have adapted, evolved and grown in this challenging time. From re-branding to developing a new Principal Designer Service. Growing in size and turnover, every challenge presented to them has been met by a passionate and resourceful team.
  • They have innovated. They have embraced new ways of working and have become more productive as a result. From greater internal collaboration (despite homeworking) within the company and forming new relationships and developing existing connections with allied professionals to connecting within their community. Through this, they have created exciting opportunities not only in the projects they work on but also in their ability to share knowledge, lead changes in the industry and develop as a practice.
  • They have maintained zero carbon status and in the last year have saved a further 46% on their emissions. They have forged new links with fellow professionals to help develop and grow the need for reduced waste and a circular economy taking their message to local schools to influence the next generation.
