Find out how and why McLaughlin & Harvey worked with CoTrain to take on a displaced former Dawnus apprentice

When James Flint approached CoTrain to help him complete his apprenticeship, they made every effort to help find him another placement as James was a casualty of the demise of Dawnus, who went into administration in early 2019.
For James, the clock was ticking. Finding another placement was an urgent matter due to the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) framework restriction that only permits 6 weeks of displacement before terminating an apprenticeship.
James Flint really wanted to complete his apprenticeship and was desperate to find a new role before time ran out. Acting quickly, CoTrain reached out to their network and McLaughlin & Harvey answered. McLaughlin & Harvey is a Northern Ireland-based Building & Civil Engineering Contractor. CoTrain received a very positive response from their Project Manager, Fatos Lleshi, when they spoke about opportunities on a £60m project in Reading that had recently started on site. An interview was arranged with James and in a spirited and welcome move Fatos took on James Flint stating, "it was the right thing to do".
“McLaughlin & Harvey is always looking at ways to engage with and develop the young workforce at project level, and James demonstrated a high level of passion, enthusiasm and a commitment to completing his apprenticeship. We are extremely pleased to have him on board at our Longwater Avenue Project site in Reading, Berkshire,” said Gillian Pettigrew, Community Engagement at McLaughlin & Harvey.
James is now continuing with his apprenticeship with CoTrain, gaining valuable experience working with the team at McLaughlin & Harvey.
