News: CoTrain Apprentice Training & Development Day - 30 Oct 2019

As part of CoTrain's commitment to developing our apprentices, we host Training & Development (T&D) days that provide an opportunity for our apprentices to meet one another while encouraging them to develop their skillset and leadership potential.

All our new apprentices joined the CoTrain team on 30 Oct 2019 for the first of three Training & Development Days. As we cover the South East and some attend college together but work on different sites, T&D days are a chance for our apprentices to network and encourage support with the wider group. 

As the host teaches construction skills and college teaches the technical skills, CoTrain is here to bring it all together and help the apprentices upwards in our industry. Our goal is to provide the industry with a highly-skilled workforce able to drive innovation and collaboration.

Structure for the day:

• Mental wellbeing
• Expectation from employers perspective – presented by Wates
• Expectation from college
• Introduction to Leadership
• Changing Places – supported by Day Group
  • This was an opportunity to sit in a delivery vehicle and talk to the drivers and experience what they can see from their lorry when delivering to site.
  • E.g. how people can be unsighted by the driver when standing behind a lorry – 60 people!
  • This is linked to project logistics plans and very much part of the CLOCS programme being implemented by SECBE

Our apprentices were also set a 'Leadership challenge' to work in teams and implement their learnings from Changing Places into the logistics plans on their project. They will present back to the group during our second T&D day in early 2020.
